Why people think 'Only Lovers Left Alive' was boring
'It has no substance'.
'there's no action',
'it's not even a love story'.
Since it was announced that there’s going to be a vampire movie with actual blood sucking, yet eerily attractive vampires (and an indie film at that!) a lot of people flipped their shit and were rubbing their hands like greedy little flies.
We usually expect vampire romance movies to have a lot of action involving oceans of blood, gore, damsels in distress, wooden stakes through the heart, etc. etc.
Yet this one was completely different, and that’s the whole point.
The story is about two lovers that have transcended time itself (significantly Adam and Eve, black and white, ying yang, iconicity people!) they lived through everything that the current generation can only read about.
And it gets boring.
Life is boring.
No one knows they exist, no one wants them dead. Van Helsing is not around the corner to shove a stake through their hearts.
This movie literally shows the ‘mundane life of a married vampire couple who got into trouble because a bimbo vamp fucked up’.
And in the end, all this couple has is each other.
People expect too much of supernatural movies, just because they’re used to them being over the top action packed and sexualized.
Please, watch this movie through the eyes of a being who has lived centuries, enjoyed every type and form of a bohemian lifestyle, art, music, literature, etc.
and watch with your ears. Because the music is a story of its own.
